MiChaela Barker
👑 Yes, Our Founder Is Extra—Just Like Our Caps
Matcha Scrubs was founded by a healthcare baddie with three degrees to her name—an MPH and MBA from Yale, and a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University. She’s walked the hospital halls as a public health professional, sat in boardrooms, and pulled all-nighters so you don’t have to sacrifice style for function.
Growing up, she watched her mom—an OB/GYN—and so many other healthcare heroes struggle with scrub caps that were too tight, too small, and never made with textured hair in mind. During the height of the pandemic, she saw it all over again. That’s when MiChaela had her lightbulb moment.
Now a 2024 Poets & Quants Best & Brightest MBA, she’s poured her passion, experience, and extra-ness into every stitch of Matcha Scrubs—creating a cap that’s innovative, inclusive, and designed to do the most.
Because when your founder is this extra, your scrub caps have to deliver more than just the basics.

Dr. Alane Laws-Barker
🩺 She Delivered Babies and the Blueprint
OB/GYN, business boss, and proud nonprofit co-founder—Dr. Alane Laws-Barker wears a lot of hats (and yes, scrub caps too). With over two decades of experience as a board-certified OB/GYN and Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, plus an MBA to match, she brings the rare combo of medical expertise and business savvy to the Matcha Scrubs mission.
She’s also the co-founder of a nonprofit helping startups get their footing, because she believes innovation should be accessible—and inclusive.
As a Black woman in medicine, Dr. Laws-Barker has lived the very frustrations that inspired Matcha Scrubs: caps that don’t fit textured hair, materials that damage strands, and a lack of thoughtful design for healthcare workers of color. So when it comes to product insight, hospital partnerships, and what actually works on the ground, she’s not just an advisor—she’s the blueprint.
